"You." He hugged her back tightly. Despite the past he knew of Rogue and Vex, he felt there was something between the two of them. Something unique to it all. He still found her jaw droppingly gorgeous but his awe had calmed down to a chiller friendship than what they had started with.
He inhaled her scent in her hair. Whomever he could smell in her place didn't matter. He knew she would always be there for him if he needed her.
"Just...lie with me?" The booze would certainly be utilized, but for now her touch meant far more.
It was touching and telling all at once, and her green eyes searched his darker ones as her hands soothed over his back first, then his shoulders and arms, before finally cupping his face so she can lift up on her toes and press a lingering, gentle kiss to his forehead. "You have me," she murmured there before settling back onto her heels.
He's right in many regards, whatever her history with Vex, she knew that the much younger fae and her had something different, an easy friendship that reminded her too much of a certain card shark at times. A hand carded through his hair, pushing it back from his face as the other found one of his, tugging him to the bed with her.
She'd let him settle himself how he's most comfortable, then wrap her arms around him and hold him close. "Just stay as long as you need sugah. Ah got you." Even though she has a sinking feeling she could guess the general source of the intense sadness, she didn't ask, not yet. If it's one thing she understood, however, was how the heart wanted what it wanted and that people sometimes did deserve second, third, or fourth chances.
Mark took her hand and lead to the bed where he gladly took a space. Lying down he wanted to be the small spoon, have her arms wrap around him while fingers stayed intertwined. Cradled may have been going to far, be he wanted to be held by someone he knew he could depend on. He had her and that meant more than words could produce.
"I hope I'm not interrupting your day." He added after a moment of just lying with her, becoming intoxicated with her scent on the pillows and from her behind him.
She'd known something was seriously wrong with the first text, but seeing him like this damn near broke her heart. Her touches were gentle and warm as she settled in bed with him, maneuvering behind him on instinct even before he guided her there, the gravity of whatever happened to the panther causing her own ache in her chest, and her solution was to hold him tight against her, pressing her lips against the back of his neck and shoulder between gentle nuzzles of her face.
"Ah'm right where ah need to be sugah, don't you worry." Rogue answered, voice soft and resolute at the same time. "You stay as long as you need, alright?" Even if that meant them both missing work, and he better believe if anyone complained on that matter she'd go to bat for the young fae. She knew Magnus would understand, but he wasn't the only boss at work, though he was the one that had final say, which mattered big time in this situation.
"You know...you're like the best friend I've got here." He was at least then realizing how reliable she was. How genuine she treated him. How good she was to him. "I mean...I know a lot of people and stuff, but I don't talk to anyone." there was just so much time spent wearing a happy face whether he actually felt it or not. "Just you and Vex really." And things were pretty obvious when he wasn't there lying with Vex.
Those nuzzles made him smile softly, knowing it was her and feeling that he was in good hands. Despite how ironic that was.
"This will pass." He added after a moment of silence. Uncertainty if he was comforting himself or her with the comment. Still, he turned his head to be heard clearly by her. "Everything will be okay."
Her brow furrowed at that, because while they're close and comfortable, Rogue expected Vex to take that title by a landslide. Not to mention, she didn't know if she could return the specific sentiment, and she's quiet for several long moments as she rested her chin on his shoulder, inhaling his familiar scent, something that registered even more with him after spending time as a panther with the shifter. She listened while he spoke, pressing a few more kisses to his shoulder, then along the muscles connecting to his neck, the realization that Mark's been the most reliable partner she had here. As far as friends were concerned, Magnus took the prize here, but their relationship obviously lacked the physical intimacy that she and Mark shared. Then of course there was Kitty, her friend and fellow X-Man from home. Kind of difficult to compete with that sort of history and bond, but Mark's wormed his way in there somehow.
"You're up there kitten. Never hurt me or treated me less than ah deserved, always findin' ways to make me smile." Rogue grinned, humming against his neck, where she had tucked her face for the time being. "They loyalist cat ah ever knew." Her voice indicated how much she appreciated him.
Again, she remained quiet while he reassured himself, smile fading into an empathetic frown, squeezing him closer to her in a sort of embrace. "He tryin' to make amends? Apologize?" Her voice was soft, nonjudgmental and spoken like someone who's been on both sides of the blame as well as the pain.
Those kisses made him shiver in a great way. She was soothing just being there. Just knowing that it was her. He didn't expect to be the best friend she had there, she had plenty. Mark was just starting to notice that he didn't have too many himself.
"I try," He smiled softly, more to himself, but thankful she had noticed. "And how many cats do you really know?" he could still slip in a crack of a joke.
"Uh, yeah." He told himself coming over that he wouldn't spill to Rogue. He had been the shoulder to cry on for so many girls that he knew what happened when you trash talked your boyfriend to friends enough times. Then your friends didn't want you with them anymore. He wasn't going to cast a bad light on Vex, despite what he had done. "He has. It'll be okay- its cleared up...I just wanted to lie somewhere quiet for a while."
The list of those she could count on, in her mind, was much shorter then he's likely imagining, but what's important now is that Mark knew he was high on her list of people she cared about here.
"They Cajun was a cat magnet ah'll have you know," she countered with a playful little huff, but then her tone grew a little more serious. "My brother was blue and looked like a fuzzy elf demon, but he was a good, loyal person with a beautiful soul. Ah ain't judgin' no one on species." She paused, nodding at his words. "Nor am ah gonna judge someone for tryin' their best and not bein' perfect. Ah've had and given my share of chances out. Just want to make sure he ain't givin' up and jumpin' ship."
She's quiet for a few more moments, nuzzling against him. "You take all the time you need."
Cajuns and blue fur elf demon. Mark just listened at first, having no idea how to picture any of it. She had mentioned a Cajun before. Remy, but Mark wasn't going to trust his memory and say that name then. Just in case he got it wrong.
"The Cajun." he repeated the name for a man he really knew nothing about. "How long did you know him?" Maybe now wasn't the best time to ask Rogue about him, but he felt better if the focus did shift from him. "Why....was your brother an elf demon?"
"No ones jumping ship." he left it at that so that she knew things really would be okay. Mark knew they would. He just needed the quiet time with her and not to be alone.
"Remy," Rogue said simply, a deep fondness in her voice, like she's aching for him, which could be confirmed by the way her embrace tightened and she nuzzled her face closer against Mark. "Since ah joined the X-Men. Must be over a decade now. We dated off an' on back when ah couldn't touch no one proper, 'cept when we lost our powers a couple of times." She exhaled hotly at those memories. "My body felt like liquid fire when we were together, like I could melt into him and we'd be one, but ah'm a right mess, least that's what ah told myself, that ah needed to be on my own and figure out what ah needed to do to sort my mess out."
Rogue made a noise as though to regretfully comment on how brilliant of an idea that had been. "We're still best friends, but ah'd change things if ah could." Except now she couldn't and she'd just need to lay in that bed she made for herself. The question about Kurt felt like a life preserver, so she took it, shaking her head. "Just looked like one. He's a mutant like me, but he don't look too human. That's just his mutation. His biological, my adoptive, mother's blue too." There might be a bit of spite at the 'mother' word, but she moved on quickly enough. "We ain't biological siblings, but we were thick as thieves as X-Men." Rogue missed him so much.
"Good," she murmured, pressing a kiss to his skin.
sorry so late- if u want to handwave the rest, thats fine too ! get some new stuff with them
"So you had a boyfriend that you couldn't touch?" That was...admirable. Although it made Mark consider that this Remy had to be an impressive guy if he stood by despite it. That also proved the point that Rogue was gorgeous and any guy would be lucky to have her even if she was untouchable.
"You miss him?" It was an easy assumption, but Mark liked hearing about her life before Eudio; he really knew so little about it.
"Like blue skin?" he looked down at her soft skin and began to stroke her hand that was around him. The kiss made him smile, glad that she knew since the last thing he wanted was for her to judge Vex,
no worries. i'd like to keep it if possible, but it's up to you.
“Not skin to skin. Not while ah had my powers workin’,” she murmured, nuzzling close to him as if the touch were a luxury, which in some aspects it was beyond that. Her and Remy, despite the love that would always be there, were complicated, and she didn’t want to delve too deeply into that pain.
“Every day.” There’s zero hesitation. Dying had put many things into perspective for her, and she thought of Remy often, sometimes even reaching for her phone to text him about something before realizing that he’s not here in Eudio.
She hummed appreciatively at the touch. “That’s right. He had blue fur too, like velvet almost.”
"Oh," Mark nodded, only partially understanding the skin to skin part, but he squeezed her hand that he brought close to his chest when she expressed missing the man daily. Mark understood what that was like and could absorb how fortunate he had been to find Vex where and when he did. If he had gotten to Eudio to find the man not there, he wasn't quite sure how long he would be staying. He certainly wouldn't have had the confidence to talk to Rogue let alone get this close.
The comfort was welcome, and she nuzzled against it with a long sigh, only able to imagine what Mark might be thinking. Still, it’s the haunting memories of Remy that remain thick in her thoughts. His question didn’t surprise her, but she hesitated answering it despite knowing the answer. “Yes. Even though it’d be complicated. More than y’all being off time.”
"Off time?" Mark wasn't certain at first what she meant. "I mean it's just like an hour or whatever. I hope."
"But it's how you'd see him again." He could figure that since he knew Rogue wasn't going back to anything good. "Wouldn't that be worth the complicated crap?" Yeah, he had heard the hesitation and had asked anyway.
"He's from your past," she remarked in explanation. That would likely be an issue with her and Remy as well, and who knew what the future held in store for the other mutant. Hopefully they world, or at least as many mutants as possible, survived the cosmic death that appeared so inevitable.
His comment about seeing him again quieted her, and that selfish desire to have a second chance to fix all that she messed up, to try and be better for herself and maybe even for him. She exhaled, holding him closer. "Ah just want him to be happy." Generally speaking, given she quite enjoyed tormenting him and their sass-centric communications. It's just their nature, but she knew that if he did show up here then they'd have to adult up and have some serious conversations, something neither of them were terribly good at with one another, at least not concurrently.
