[it's the same concern he'd had in the weeks leading up to his return. the idea of using intimacy to revive one of the very few people from his life who have held any real significance in it. who he's loved--
but it's that love that's pushed him to ask for the change of incentive. that inability to exist without his family there with him. without his daughter, at the very least. for her, he's willing to set aside any feelings he may have on the matter in favour of working to bring her back.]
[His words completely startle her. After their own absence of any real intimacy or friendship over the past month or so, Rogue never expected him to offer such a glimpse of something, someone so precious to him. Especially not after, well he didn't know Wanda as his daughter, and she'd pointedly kept that very complex relationship out of any discussions of the witch she murdered to save what remained of the mutant population. From what she's seen, there's a very keen difference between Nina and the woman who caused so much pain and suffering within their race. The former was innocent, a tragedy of hate and fear.
It takes her several moments to find her voice, which is full of emotion--she's clearly smiling--when she answers.]
Ah sure hope so. From everythin' ah saw and... Felt, she seems like a lovely little girl.
[Erik had done well by her, and it sparked her anger to know that his efforts to save someone with his powers revealed him and his family to those who would harm them.]
Oh. [She pauses, debating how she should answer.] Ah ain't doin' much. You lookin' for company?
[The mutant's fully expecting him to say something along the lines of 'yes, but not with you,' so there's a cautious note to her voice.]
[there's a lot he could say about his daughter. but for all that nina's revival may be on the cards, it's still difficult to talk about her at length. he is the reason she was killed in the first place, afterall. so he's willing to leave that part of their conversation well alone. especially given the out that rogue has offered up.]
Not particularly. But you're welcome here regardless. [a pause, and he adds--] I trust you know how to use a lawnmower.
[because if you're coming over, you're doing chores, rogue]
[Rogue has long since learned that unless it's necessary to speak about, it's a better idea to let a subject drop when it came to Magneto, especially when it regards his family.
His answer earns and honest scoff of a chuckle.]
Depends, is that a euphemism? [Because otherwise is he actually requesting she come over and do manual labor that he can accomplish while reading the paper with his powers? Oh, he's just real charming.]
Only if ah can borrow your power and sunbathe while ah do it.
Well now you got me all curious. You need me to bring my tools?
[Since she's a mechanic part time and all. The last bit has her smiling fondly, however, knowing that he's again willing to let her borrow his magnetic powers means quite a deal.]
It's been too long. You know ah like the feel of them.
Ah'll bring my latest batch then. Fair warnin', it's real sweet.
[She's amazed that no one in the South thrust it upon him along with grits and sweet potato pie.]
In fifteen to twenty sugah.
[True to her word, she's walking her motorcycle up to his home (so as not to scare any animals) approximately fifteen minutes later, the sweet tea and a few other things tucked safely away in the saddlebags. When she sees him, she'll offer him a cautious, yet genuine smile.]
[he's a short distance away from the building when he first feels her approach. it isn't until she's close that he actually turns to face her though, a soft smile on his face. he knows how he left things between them before he returned home. knows that she has a perfectly good reason to feel cautious around him. but the return home did him a world of good, and he knows that he was in the wrong. she'd only ever tried to help him.
he doesn't say anything by way of a greeting though, and instead turns back to what he was doing before; making a slow path around the perimeter of the grounds that're supposedly attached to the house. he has plans for the area, and having rogue there means that they may well come in to fruition sooner rather than later.]
[The soft smile startles her, and her brow furrows softly at first. It's been quite some time since she's seen it, that sort of smile that seems to almost touch affection again. There are conflicting emotions within, both from home and Eudio, and separating them had long since become impossible, like unwinding a spider's web without breaking it or ending up with a sticky mess.
In the end, her confusion fades into a more neutral face as she parked her bike, gaze following his work on the path, observing it quietly and thoughtfully for a few moments.]
It's good to see that smile again sugah. Ah've missed it.
[it isn't meant as a dismissal of her words. but he knows that she knows him well enough by now to understand why he wants to move past the idea of talking about their feelings. he's never been that type of person, and even a life with magda and nina had only changed that temporarily. it's far simpler to focus on the task at hand. which in this case involves a short walk away from the house.
though...he does at least offer out a hand towards her, leaving rogue free to take it or dismiss it as she sees fit. it isn't as though she'll be able to get lost here anyway.]
[Part of her understood, well most of her really given her experience with both versions of Magneto, but the rest of her still feels a bit of a sting regardless of that knowledge. The offer of his hand quickly buries the lingering negativity, and she slips hers in his, offering a quiet squeeze as she falls easily in step with him. It helps that she's a tall woman in times like this.
Her eyes linger on him for the first few steps, but soon she turns her gaze forward to search for whatever it is he means to show her.]
[he leads the way down a vaguely distinguishable path between the trees, the only proof that there even is a path to follow being the occasional metal marker dotted near the base of a tree. it's a few minutes walk, enough distance being put between them and his house to put the building completely out of view. but when they finally break from the cover of the trees, it's to a simple clearing in the forest containing the remains of an old barn. it's beyond repair, but that isn't the point.]
I was thinking that we could use this area here. As long as your friends wards would hold.
[because he isn't risking destroying the forest around them in the process.]
It's close enough that people will be able to wash and change at the house.
[At some point during the walk, Rogue gave his hand a gentle squeeze before shifting it behind her back and to her waist with a soft hum, knowing that if he feels uncomfortable with the closer proximity, then he'd extract himself from her. It's a bit of a litmus test, to see where she stood with him a bit more clearly in regards to the whole touching aspect. It's also a hell of a gamble, considering everything that's happened between them, but Rogue doesn't want to walk on eggshells anymore. Other than the movement of her hand with his, there's no other external reaction to the shift, her gaze instead on the path ahead of them.
She starts grinning at the first glimpse of the old barn, having seen enough of them growing up to know their look, the nature of that sort of building. When they stop, it's evident that she's already on board with the idea.] This is perfect Erik. Ah'll talk to Magnus tomorrow.
[She made a thoughtful noise as she surveys the old barn.] You thinkin' of housin' anyone here or up at your house? Either way, you'll have to keep the kitchen stocked. [There's a pause, her grin widening.] We should have a barbecue with a potluck for everyone to meet. Maybe set up some picnic tables and a grill, or oh! A beach volleyball court?

Ah'm touched sugah. Ah'd love to meet her.

[though, given nina's nature, that's something of a given. she liked everybody, for better or worse.]
I should let you get back to whatever it is you're doing. I just wanted to let you know...
[that he's back. that he's going to try and make things right, at last.]

[so yes, he is being literal about it. but don't worry, at least she won't be alone in sorting the area out?]
If you wish to use my abilities, however, then so be it.

[if he's honest, he doubts they'll even get round to using the lawnmower anyway. there's planning to be done first.]
You may not have much use for them yet.
no subject
[He's about to and in all likelihood he'll hate it, but she's going to share some of her culture with him.]
Ah ain't worried. It's the thought that counts.

[of course, he did spend time searching the states for mutants too. but sampling local delicacies hadn't been a priority back then.]
Take your time. I'll see you when you get here.
